Author: macsdaddysad news my friends. Original Z-Boy Bob Biniak passes awayBiniak an original Z-Boy: 1958-2010Email Print Comments Share41retweet5 By Adam Salo ESPN Action Sports Archive It's with sadness that we report the passing of original Dogtown skateboarder Bob "The Bullet" Biniak. Biniak suffered a massive cardiac arrest on Sunday and passed away in the early hours of Thursday at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. Born in 1958, Biniak was an original member of the seminal Zephyr skateboards team in the 1970s. Biniak competed in the 1975 Del Mar Nationals where the Zephyr team turned the skateboarding world on its head with revolutionary riding and undeniable style. In the 2002 documentary, "Dogtown and Z-Boys," Biniak described the team's clash with the skateboard establishment at Del Mar, "Like a hockey team going into a figure skating match." Biniak was a frequent face in mid-'70s issues of Skateboarder magazine. He was often photographed by Glen E. Friedman. Friedman has a heartfelt remembrance of Biniak with many classic photos posted on his blog. Following his stint with the Zephyr team, Biniak rode for Sims and later Logan Earth Ski. Later in life Biniak pursued a career as a pro golfer even playing in the Sectional Qualifying round on the US Senior Open as recently as 2008. Biniak is survived by his wife Charlene and daughter Brie. Biniak's influence in skateboarding, especially his powerful pool riding and fearless pipe riding will be remembered with fondness. there was a cool photo of him riding mt baldy. go to expn.com click skateboarding and then you will see link to story with photo. Here's a link to an anual event going on in Washington State that Helmets in Hands / Genesis is helping out with this year. It sure looks and sounds like fun. We need to get some stuff like this going on in the midwest - I bet MC agrees.... www.cathlametcorral.com/

Submitted today: Mr. McHenry,
Earlier this year we passed the fourth anniversary of the dedication of the Penn Valley Skatepark. I offer you my congratulations on completing what is surely the most used KCMO Parks and Recreation asset. If the weather is dry the skatepark is used every day year round. In fact, last winter several snowboarders used the park while it was covered with snow. Creating a public facility that has been embraced by the citizens of Kansas City is something you should be proud of.
In addition, the skaters have proven to be great partners with your department. The skaters have performed concrete maintenance, park cleaning, and are very protective of the park, often discouraging nefarious individuals that linger in the area. Of all the stakeholders that use Penn Valley Park it has been the skateboarding community that has consistently turned out in force during the past year’s “bushwhacking” efforts to remove the overgrown vegetation in the park. In fact, they are the ONLY stakeholders that have done so.
Therefore, I am formerly requesting that you repay their dedication by finishing the skatepark. The necessary funds were allocated over two years ago. That those funds have not been utilized to date defies logic. It is also true that through the efforts of the Skatepark Taskforce more money has been allocated than will be required to finish the park. I would hate to think that efforts are underway to redistribute any of those funds before the park has been completed. Finish the park, and then allocate remaining funds where needed.
Finally, several thousand dollars have been raised by the community with the intention of providing lighting for the skatepark. Lights are needed for safety and security as much as for skating. We often find used condoms in the park in the mornings, and the taggers that have defaced the park do so after it is too dark to skate. How do we know this? We leave at night and the park is clean, The following morning we find fresh tags. While the amount raised to date will not purchase new lighting, it could be used to provide the manpower to move the seven existing streetlights to the west of the skatepark and repurpose them as skatepark lighting; I am also requesting that this be accomplished. The money to do so resides with the Penn Valley Park Conservancy.
Again, my thanks and congratulations on the success of the park. Let us now finish it and make it even better for our community.
Sincerely,
Michael Cross Kansas City Skatepark Taskforce
