I talked to Vinny's skatepark a bit ago. They sure are fun folks up there. Unfortunately, I found out that the bowl will be going away sometime in April and replaced with more street type stuff. They said the kids up there just aren't getting into bowl riding like they had hoped. The bowl will be relocated to an indoor park in Des Moines called Sailor? Here's a few good shots from their Groms contest a few weeks back:

Here's a little something business and fun related I'd like to share. Over the past 2 years, I've chatted with quite a few Roller Derby gals around the country and even in Europe. They are usually buying safety gear but some of our skate parts work in their skates too. I am amazed at how similar our sports are. Roller Derby was big in the 70's, died for awhile, and took off again around 2002. Sound familiar? These girls speak the same language as we do too. You know how normal people look at you funny when you use terms like gnar and rad in conversation? Derby girls use all the same words and verbiage we're familiar with. I was at an Orthodontists appointment with my daughter the other day and there was a KC Star article about one of the assistants at this office who broke teeth by night as a Derby girl and fixed them by day as a dental assistant . She also plays with a titanium knee brace due to a torn ACL a ways back so they call her the bionic woman. Here's a link to a local league: kcrollerwarriors.com/Here's an ESPN clip about the resurgence of the sport: I'm going to try to catch one of these bouts this year. The May 30th one isn't likely for me but maybe another one.

Author: curtis Killer session at Penn this morning crew!!! Huge crowd, and as stated before, everybody was killin' it. I saw Christina workin' it out on the street course. Can't wait till she starts rollin' the bowl with us, maybe she can leave Joe at home then??? LOL Thanks Mikey for snappin' the shot for us... I finally met up with JimmyK to get some new bushings for my trucks. I did not have my wallet so you know what that meant..... That's right, that mean ol' (OLD) GenSk8 kat had to come and do his heavy work for him! Watch out for this guy at the parks, geesh, what a bully!

Author: joe Jimmy thanks for the heads up on IVskaters work, I will need to speak with her. the ft scott project is moving fwd well, this Thursday we will meet with the school board there and see if they are going to donate the city some land that the city and the board co-own. Once the board approves the land the city will donate that land to the skatepark project. the board is set to be behind this effort so it should all go well. The plus side of this land is that it already has a ditch running through it. (see photo, land is where busses are are parked in left side of photo) Fund rasing has already begun for the ft scott project, I just hope that we get something for the kids, at this point I would not even mind getting them some park like rosedale. Joe

More blubbering mass-hysteria.......like that mess with that Princess Diana. Buckingham Palace was like a fort, surrounded by hordes of Zulu's...pulling their hair out and sleeping in the street. All over someone they never even knew! It's happening again!

joe, I'm down for that first aid class and congrats on your new job. johnf, I found that Thrasher today - now I need your autograph. A little tribute to Farrah Faucett here: I'm sure the elder members of the crew will remember the episode of Charlie's Angels 32 years ago when ABC took the most famous actress on the most watched TV show of its time and put her on a skateboard. I really wasn't a TV watcher but I remember making a point to sit down and watch this whole episode. It may sound odd, but I think Farrah Faucett really did play a role in skateboarding history. When this episode aired in 1977, skateboarding was booming in California and some other spots in the country but it really wasn't considered a national mainstream sport yet. After this episode, it seemed to launch into a very mainstream sport throughout our country and internationally. It's hard to say whether Farrah riding a board had anything to do with this or not - but it certainly didn't hurt. By the way, she really did learn to ride a board and rode it pretty well. She did have a stunt rider for the bigger stuff on the show though. Thanks Farrah: God Bless and Rest in Peace.
