Same here Jimmy, could be any one of us...except for Zach, who is like a "Rollie Pollie". Thanks for keeping this deal alive Tom. And thanks for the plea for help on video/photos at the event. I have no problem letting someone shoot with my equipment for a few minutes while I get a couple of runs in. I vote for some non skater type fool like that GenSk8 kat!!! He is usually only at the park to cause trouble anyway!

Tom, this event was great. Well planned, well organized, and an event / organzation that I take pride in being affiliated with. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success.
I especially want to thank the crew from Bleeding Heart Tattoo Company. Those guys were still working hard when I left around 4:00 pm [1600 johnf]. The idea of customizing everyone's helmet who wanted it was awesome. It'll give the kids more pride in those helmets now that they've been personalized and more reason to continue wearing them. Right On!!

sounds like a great time was had by all, bummer the weather could not have been better for the event. I see that my old friend carl from Flash Burn was out and giving away a grind rail, he is making a great product and that ken Karns with his company promowerksdesign.com/ was out taking some pics as well. So many people getting behind a great cause, wearing the bucket is a smart thing to do and the support behind this shows how important it is to people. great stuff!

I think the event was a success. I, however, did not like seeing people with canes and people who obviously did not skate/ride in line to get a helmet just because it was free. I saw a woman take three helmets out of the boxes behind the tables and walk away without a wrist ban.I ...........
Sorry, just kind of peed me off a little bit that people could be so selfish.

Yup, agreed. Most of the skaters that were in attendance that I know personally and that could have used a helmet did not receive one. WAY too many non skaters in line getting wrist bands and helmets. I guess it would have been difficult to say no to someone though as who's to say for sure what their intention was.

I know of a few that were getting them for kids at home, etc. but can't say that about all of them. Either way, there will be 180 more heads that will be protected now.

Hey guys thanks a billion for supporting this cause and getting behind something you believe in, as far as the concerns or stipulations for helmets I see your point and will be fine tweaking these small but very real concerns that can make or break future events. I would also like to point out that this style of event is a breeding machine for free loaders and moochers, I have no respect for that style of life however saying that maybe they learned something about our culture and our history. I learn to put snipers in the trees and bouncers by the helmets LOL! If you like the general idea of what the event was about we have financially locked down 2 at the moment and are reviewing more within the rest of the year. Let me know if you care to be involved and to what degree of involvement. check this out getting linked to my site soon just awaiting a few more pics. web.me.com/surfrodz/Helmets_in_Hands/HIH.html

We certainly did learn alot from the first try at an event like this. I like looking at it from Centerpoints theory; As long as the event prevents even one brain injury or fatality, all their financial and time investment in the event will have been worthwhile.
Unfortunately, there's always going to be selfish freeloaders trying to buck the system for personal gain and not seeing the big picture.
As for the helmets being taken, I'm kind of confused about that one. I have no doubt in the chaos that it could have happened. However, we had exactly 180 helmets and 180 wristbands. No one came up at the end with a wristband that didn't have a helmet? I believe we ended up one for one on that deal.
Also, just after 1:00 I checked over at the registration table to see how it was going. The event was just getting started and they still had 3 wristbands left with no one left in line. That tells me that even though many people got helmets that probably shouldn't have, the opportunity for anyone who actually did want one was there. All they had to do was show up and register.
Tom, thanks again for all your time and effort you put into this. I think you've started something really good here. I'll gladly help HIH however I possibly can down the road.

Well Jim you were there from the beginning and I appreciate, and respect that. I did a little research myself calling a few of the volunteers about this and they all seemed to be a little puzzled. Its very important to be on point, direct and factual about these events as well as the circumstances that present them selves, before during and after. I invite all comments and suggestions and I will research everyone of them to the best of my ability, for clear factual answers. Jim you were fantastic in getting these helmets to HIH in the time frame we gave you and to have more helmets then advertised is a good sign.

I guess I am being a little critical. If half of the helmets get used it is a huge, and I mean huge success. I think we all have a little work to do to show these kids that wearing a helmet does not make you a loser. We need to drive home that you are never too "cool" to protect yourself from serious injury.
Sorry, I do tend to ramble.....

I guess it just didnt seem like there where 150 skater/biker/scooter types there but obviously the numbers worked out perfectly. Thanks for the info.

Charlie and I went to Banner park to skate today and one of the guys from the demo (camo, unstrapped) was there and he didn't have on his helmet. Charlie was quick to call him out on it. I thought it was pretty funny. I don't know what his response to Charlie was cause I was busy showing my girl how to kick turn on the flat.
