COUNCIL BILL NO. 039: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH AMERICAN RAMP COMPANY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A SKATEBOARD PARK TO BE LOCATED IN THE VICINITY OF SHELTER #6 IN THE MAIN CITY PARK IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $100,000 TO BE PAID FROM THE PARK FUND Community Center Director Chris Cotten reported three vendors had submitted proposals for this project. American Ramp Company is recommended by the Park Board because they came within budget and are located two hours away so they can be available to provide service quickly if needed and they provided multiple options and designs for the skateboard park. Alderman Young commented the community survey had indicated the park was over utilized so questioned why the Park Board chose the Park for this project. Mr. Cotten explained the deciding factor was the availability of sidewalks to the park, the central location and the fact that the skate facility is complimentary to the other outdoor activities at the park. Location: longitude 94°20'20.41"W latitude 38°39'47.08"N maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.663077,-94.339003&z=16&t=h&hl=en Will be located just NE of the tennis courts. This is too bad. ARC builds some OK parks, but the city of Harrisonville could have done better. If you want to get an idea of what they build go look at Pleasnt Hill skate park. I am sure alot of you on here already know how bad it is. I guess it is better than nothing. I am sure I will be out there skating.

Dan Is it too late to get them info on ARC ramps? If not let me know as I have a folder of info that shows that ARC is not the best investment for the city. When do you make choices to buy stuff based on how far away the manufacturer is from your location? I don't care that there is a ford plant here in KC, that does not influence me to purcahse thier product at all. ood statement to me by the alderman. Joe

Yea, it may be to late because I believe they have already have a contract. I would apppreciate the info anyway to inform Mr. Cotten about the company he has chosen to deal with. It would also help to try and be involved with the design. Maybe we can prevent them from putting in thier metal stuff and at least get skatelite or pre-fab concrete. Thanks for your interest. You can send the info to: recreation@ci.harrisonville.mo.us

On could say what a waste, but at least it's a start. It will b interesting to see how that community embraces a skateboard park. Thanks for the info. Dan, and it was great to see you and Desiree at LS.

Well I went to the Harrisionville Skate Park last night. It is all concrete (pre cast and poured in place) but very small. It includes a 3' half pipe, some small transitions and a fun but small street area. Not to bad for $100,000. If there are more than 5 skaters there it is difficult to do much of anything. Nice job Harrisonville. At least it is not a metal, slick modular park. Go check it out. I would recommend it for those just starting to learn transitions.
