This is where the big boys play hehe. You can skate as fast as you can handle it at this park. It has it all.

This park has the look and feel of the big stuff in the Northwest. It's big, fast, and can be intimidating to beginner or intermediate transition skaters. Every corner, pocket, hip, wall and transition is different which makes it very fun and very challenging. The surface is good and smooth but it has some sealer on it so it can be a little slick at times. Most of the coping is set well. This is definitely a park to check out if traveling through KC.

uh, i kinda like shawnee..... the trannies are the best for 100s of miles. the surface is the best in my opinion. i have had no slick problemas there compared to others. so fast. so fast. so many lines . so many hips. i could go on & on. i never get bored there. actually, i think it is the best by far.

If gas prices weren't so darn high or I lived a little closer, I'd be out at SM almost everyday! It's one of the top three parks to ride in this area, if not the best. However, it takes a lot of time to get over the fear factor and to find lines. But once that happens, then he or she can start to learn to enjoy the park like many of the local Swans already do!

Makes my gonads shrivel up and find a place to hide. I just don't skate stuff that big very often so I'm not to comfortable when I get up there. If I had more time to skate it I think I would enjoy it more. I love watching you guys skate there though, you guys kill it.

5 trips there for me before I could really make a complete "Lap" around the bowl. Now it is just a blast to skate. Super fast, super big, and lots of time between walls to get your head right!!

I had a chance to visit this park today.
Granted, after a pretty nasty fall dropping in (severely banged up wrist) at Prairie Village, I was fairly intimidated by this bowl. If I had to wish for one thing, it would be a roll in for those who are quite up to speed with drop-ins.
But, with a bit of pumping around, you can hit everything in this bowl and it is a blast.
The street area leaves something to be desired. Too cramped for the combination of bicycles/scooters/skateboards that ride it and really no flow, in my opinion.

jclause, Shawnee is great. I think the best tip I have for the first time there is to just not let the size of it intimidate you. Really, it's one of the easier places to skate because there's so much flat bottom and time between each wall that you can get squared up and plan each wall before you get to it. I think it took most of us at least 5 or 6 sessions to get something figured out there but as long as some of the locals are there to show you around, you can probably borrow some of their lines.
Wish I could join you but can't so have fun............

Thanks Jim. It was a good session. Kinda short because I was the only one skating the bowl and something that size wears me out pretty quick. I was able to find a few good lines though and boosted a few frontside in the shallow end. I would love to skate it with you guys some time.

Tuesdays and Thursdays (evenings) are when I usually hit it up. Weekends usually see at least one trip there.

Boosted my first backside air out of the deep yesterday skating with Craig. Too much weight forward coming back in and ended up slamming in the flat. Still stoked.
